February’s Stich – Horseshoe

Here’s the stich I learned in February, keeping up with my New Year’s resolution #1. As it happens, it was the lace stich pattern in the Traveling Woman shawl…

Cast on 14+1 stiches.
Row 1: Knit 1 (yarn over, knit 5. Slip the next stich, knit two together and pass the slipped stich over (slk2p). Knit 5, yarn over, knit 1) to end
Row 2 and all the even rows: knit into knit stiches, purl into purl stiches
Row 3: Purl 1 (knit 1, yarn over, knit 4. Slk2p. Knit 4, yarn over, knit 1, purl 1) to end.
Row 5: Purl 1 (knit 2, yarn over, knit 3. Slk2p. Knit 3, yarn over, knit 2, purl 1) to end.
Row 7: Purl 1 (knit 3, yarn over, knit 2. Slk2p. Knit 2, yarn over, knit 3, purl 1) to end.
Row 9: Purl 1 (knit 4, yarn over, knit 1. Slk2p. Knit 1, yarn over, knit 4, purl 1) to end.
Row 11: Purl 1 (knit 5, yarn over. Slk2p. Yarn over, knit 5, purl 1) to end.

Repeat rows 1-12 as many times as needed.

As you can see, the stich is very repetitive and therefore quite simple. You just need to remember how many knit stiches are in each row.

Enjoy! 🙂
